Weather:
Puerto Vallarta is on the same parallel as Hawaii, thus shares the same tropical weather patterns. Puerto Vallarta enjoys nearly 300 sunny days a year, with temperatures averaging 28ºC (82ºF). During the winter months daily temperatures are between 78º-85ºF , cooling to around 70ºF at night. The rainy season starts in mid-June and lasts till mid-October, bringing tropical rains and temperatures in the 90s with very high humidity. The hottest months are August and September.
Tipping:
Most workers in Mexico rely on tips to supplement their salary, which is usually very modest. Taxi drivers do not expect a tip unless they do something special - like carry lots of luggage, etc. It is customary to tip bellmen $20-$30 pesos or $2-3 U.S. dollars and the concierge if she/he helps you make reservations for a special event, etc. It is customary to leave $20 pesos or so (about $2) on your pillow each morning for the maid who cleans your room. In bars and restaurants, the standard tip in Mexico is 15%-20% for exceptional service. It is customary to tip tour guides and tour bus drivers. Use your discretion on this, but for a full-day tour, a customary tip for a tour guide is $50 pesos ($5 US) and for a bus driver, $20-$30 pesos ($2-3 US)
U.S. Citizens:
No visa is required for a stay of up to 90 days for tourists, but a visa is required for business travel. A passport or proof of U.S. Citizenship (original or certified copy of government issued birth certificate OR original or certified copy of naturalization certificate) along with a valid state issued photo ID are required for all travel. Beginning December 31, 2006 a passport will be required.
Mexico is on Central Standard Time, one hour behind EST and two ahead of PST.
Electricity is 110 volts, same as in the U.S.
Currency: Mexican peso, but U.S. dollars are widely accepted
Drinking Age is 18 years old
